The KOPI Online Plagiarism Search Portal is a unique, open service for web users that enables them to check for identical or similar contents between their own documents and the files uploaded by other authors. This check function works in any European language, due to our language-independent algorithm.
KOPI is the only unique service right now that is able to identify quotations - and also their translations - taken from the English Wikipedia. KOPI can run searches in Hungarian, English and German, and is being continuously improved to support other languages as well.
KOPI is able to measure the total amount of citations in a document in case the source is available; the overlap between two documents; and the originality of a written work in a set of documents.
With its constantly growing database KOPI is able to find the original author of a work, or search for works which cite from a given document/author. The system is capable of comparing hundreds of thousands of pages within seconds, while detecting even a paragraph-long match in them.
KOPI has been developed to help plagiarism detection because there was a great need for such service at Hungarian and Central-European universities, but the current portal has a much greater audience.
For professors, teachers KOPI gives the opportunity to compare theses and home assignments to all documents uploaded before, or to the enormous KOPI database and to the full content of Wikipedia.
Students can check their own written works to see if the amount of citation has exceeded the limit set by their home institution. They can also protect their theses by uploading them to the system under their names.
Authors can upload their written works to the KOPI Portal so they are free to be published anywhere. KOPI protects copyright by showing who used the document and the author can see if the other party cited his work accordingly or not.
Reviewers can use KOPI to compare the submitted work with other works of the same author, with the sources cited, so they are able to screen out improper citations and self-plagiarism cases.
KOPI helps conference organizers make the submitted papers as unique as possible; screen out repeated submissions; and search for interesting papers and authors of the same or similar topics.
Contents of publications or corporate websites are often subject to plagiarism, so it is of great importance for press- and book-publishers, blog authors and for the online and offline media as a whole to protect their property from copyright infringement. They can easily do so by uploading their contents to the KOPI Portal, which will protect them against content theft by easily identifying the original author.
KOPI Plagiarism Search Portal enables all users to upload documents and start a plagiarism search using these documents. Uploaded written works are comparable with each other, and with the full database of the system.
The users can check for plagiarism not only in tens of thousands of documents uploaded by the registered users, but can also compare documents to several digital data collections and the Wikipedia containing millions of entries and articles. KOPI uses the SZTAKI Desktop GRID to preprocess the immense database of Wikipedia. You can help us by running the client on your machine.
KOPI has been built to ease its integration with external systems, digital libraries, so it is possible to protect any digital collections against content theft, even if they are not available to the public.
The similarity search engine detects overlaps between uploaded documents. To be able to limit access to the uploaded documents, the system needs to identify the users, thus it needs registration. Take the following five steps to start using KOPI.
